The Group had its origin in 1935, when Mr Ow Kim Swee, father of the Group
Chairman, started his tongkang (wooden lighter) business under the name ‘Hai
Sun Hup’. As a small tug and barge operator, he provided lighterage facilities
for ships anchored in the harbour and at warehouses along the Singapore River.
In 1970, Hai Sun Hup Co (Pte) Ltd was incorporated to take over the operations
of the sole proprietorship. Since then, the Group has expanded from
sub-contractor to sub-agent to agent and shipowner.
The Company was incorporated on 25 July 1977 under the name of CK Ow (Pte) Ltd.
It became a public limited company on 10 November 1989 under the name of Hai
Sun Hup Group Ltd.
The principal activities of the Group consist of investment holding, ship
owning, chartering, ship management, shipping agency, terminal operations and
ancillary marine services, freight forwarding, hotel owning and management,
travel agency, trading, property investment and development. The principal
activity of the Company is that of an investment holding company.
The Company changed its name to Stamford Land Corporation Ltd wef 5 September
2001.
